MEET YOUR CANDIDATE

Jason Koert is a dad, husband, and business owner with years of experience in director and management roles. Jason married the love of his life in 2004 and they have two children who are their everything. He graduated from Spring Lake High School in 1997 and attended Muskegon Community College.

VOLUNTEER ROLES

Jason currently serves on the service team for Shores Community Church. Jason volunteered as the Director of Men’s Ministry at All Shores Wesleyan Church (ASW) where he served for five years. This ministry helps men of all walks of life be their best, as role models, husbands, employers, and employees. Jason also served with the ASW food ministry. In this role, he became the Director of the program, serving hundreds of local families in coordination with Feeding America.

Jason’s other volunteer roles included the Beach Survival Challenge, where he competed and was also on staff teaching people about pier safety, rip tides, rescue and revival techniques. Jason also goes on mission trips to Honduras, where he has built security walls at the orphanage in Comayagua and brought supplies to the people in the mountains—one of his favorite ways to serve.

Jason has also coached co-ed and men’s softball teams and other sports for years.

As an involved parent and teacher advocate, Jason served on the West Michigan Academy of Arts and Academics (WMAAA) Retention Committee and Hiring Committee to help retain and bring in the best and brightest to mold the minds of our students. Listening to the teachers and hearing what truly helps them shed light on the needs in the education system.

BUSINESS EXPERIENCE

Jason was recruited to manage telecommunications offices throughout Michigan, eventually becoming the Regional Director of West Michigan. His career later transitioned to automotive sales, and eventually his passion for the gym led him to work at Omni Fitness Club as a Director and Manager. Jason was also an Ambassador with the Muskegon Chamber of Commerce.

West Michigan Center for Family Health then recruited Jason where he worked to help small businesses, individuals, and organizations. While at Family Health, he served as the Chairman of the Wyoming/Kentwood Chamber of Commerce Retention Committee.

When Family Health closed, Jason returned to automotive sales where he received customer satisfaction scores of 100% year after year due to treating people with honesty and integrity.

Wanting to spend more time with his growing family, he purchased a local business, Wright’s Sr Carpet and Duct Cleaning. He owned and operated Wright’s for over 10 years—earning all 5 star reviews from customers and growing the company—and sold it in 2023. As a small business owner, he was able to meet many people and build a broad understanding of people’s needs in the community.

PERSONAL LIFE

Engaging in politics and speaking for those who may not have a voice are two areas that have become more of a passion and a calling for Jason over the last 15 years. Seeing what is happening in the country and local communities has drawn Jason to become involved in making a difference. He sees the problems and instead of lip service, works towards solutions. 20 years of marriage has helped him learn a lot about listening and responding. With his wife’s diagnosis of Primary Progressive Multiple Sclerosis, he has genuine empathy for those who have life challenges and needs.

Jason is an avid hunter and loves to fish, hike, boat, ice climb, cliff jump, sky dive, paintball, lift at the gym, cheer for his two children at their events and teach people new things. When traveling, he manages to make friends everywhere he goes and maintain those relationships for years. As his wife says, “Jason loves people and helping people.”
